VOTE FOR TIGER

‘Tiger, tiger burning bright
In the forest of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry? ...........’

This imagery poem of William Blake at his time epicted the strength of the Sher Khan of the jungle, but now these words are fast fading with the humans encroaching upon the abode of animals for their own use, destroying nature in the process.
In order to stop this act and save our nature and its wildlife, ‘VOTE FOR TIGERS’ campaign was organized by the KIDS FOR TIGERS CLUB. The chief initiators were actor, Joydeep Kundu and environmental activist, Bittu Sahgal. An awareness programme for saving Tigers, which are perhaps on the way to become one of the fastest endangered species on the Earth, was organized on 11th May, 2016 at the Loreto Day School, Bowbazar. We along with our teachers participated in the campaign.
All of us reached the spot at 9:00 a.m. gradually, students from several schools began to fill the hall. Soon, Joydeep Sir entered the hall. Immediately, we went up to him and congratulated him on his being honoured by The Telegraph for his incredible work on nature. He reciprocated with a big thank you. The programme started at the arrival of Mr. Bittu Sahgal, who interacted with each one of us.
After the lighting of Diyas, the Principal Mam of Loreto Day School greeted us with her welcome speech. Then, Sahgal Sir took the stage and delivered a discourse on how much harm our earlier generations have done to our Nature. He asked us to take an oath to repair the damage done to the nature. After some inspiring minutes, the students from different corners of the city went up to the stage to perform various acts like dance, music, drama, poster presentation to spread awareness of the need to save Tigers.
We also prepared different posters and short speeches on the issue. When our turn came, we went on the stage to put forward our views. Our presentation received loud applause from the audience. We returned to our school very much enlightened, honoured and delighted with a silent pledge that we will make every effort to save our Tigers.
