Conception and inception of the Esplanade St. Michael Education Society

In the month of May,1989, on the very first day of the month, a group of benevolent, educated, devoted and dedicated people gathered at 3, Waterloo Street, Kolkata-700069 and decided to form an association of like-minded people to do some thing for the up  liftment  of the Muslim minority. This small group comprised Mr. G.E.L Correa, Mr. H. Zaman, Mr. Md. Aslam and Mr. Parvez Alam.


The discussion took such a serious turn that they decided to meet again at the same place after a fortnight with more concrete ideas.


When they next met, there were not only more ideas but more people too, as each of the “four” had been talking to other like-minded people who showed great enthusiasm and willingness to share in the endeavours towards uplightment of the  Muslim Community.


Thus, the expanded group of “fifteen” decided to formally meet at the same place on 1st June, 1989 at 6:30p.m. and have a Society formed. The society thus formed was The Esplanade St. Michael Educational Society.

The Registered Office of the Society is situated at 2, Chittaranjan Avenue, Kolkata-700072 in the state of West Bengal.

 

The objects for which the society was established were:

1 ) To establish schools to impart education mainly to Muslim Students, and to young people belonging to every social class, community and linguistic group who choose to resort to it, through the medium of English and other regional language.
2 )

To promote and develop schools which will be a part of the Muslim Community’s effort to share in the country’s educational undertaking. This effort, while being particularly responsible towards the Muslim Community, will also be at the service of the entire nation.

3 ) The schools thus developed will make available upto 50% annual admissions to eligible Muslim pupils whose parents/guardians are prepared to pay full fees. And will offer free studentship or part free studentship to indignent Muslim pupils numbering not less than 5% of the total enrolment of the school.

To hold special classes, for Muslim students to impart the teachings of the prophet and to organize Tabliquie Jamats (Missionary tours) for them.

To hold examination and grant certificate of proficiency and distinction.

6 )

To manage stipends and scholarships for the needy Muslim students who are desirous of learning.

7 )

To establish institutions for physical culture and games and sports, both indoor and outdoor.

8 )

To organize youth welfare activities.

9 )

To establish schools and training centers pertaining to cottage industries.

10 )

To establish institutions for developing welfare work in relation to problem of juvenile delinquency and social, moral hygene.

11 )

To organize social and cultural conferences.

12 )

To establish and maintain basic and adult education centers.

13 )

To organize cultural delegations with other countries.

14 )

To organize study circles and arrange discussions, debates, lectures, dramatic performance and charity shows.

15 )

To maintain libraries and reading rooms.

16 )

To acquire by purchase, lease or otherwise and hold lands, buildings and property of every description for furthering the objects.

17 )

To improve the welfare of the people to achieve a quality of life which will promote a sense of integration, harmony and international goodwill.

18 )

To accept any bequest, gift, donation etc. for raising funds.

19 )

To do all such other things as are incidental and condusive to the attainment of the above objects or any one of them.

20 )

To improve for a common place for the meeting of the members of the Society for the purpose of recreation, discussion of common problems, advancement of Social Welfare ideas and for mutual assistance.

 

Thus , with the 1st object, in mind , St. Michael’s Academy was established in 1990.
